Gerringong locals and firm Illawarra favourites, The Bungalows, are gearing up to officially launch their new album ‘Monkey Mountain Road’ on July 8th. To celebrate the release of the LP, the band recently announced a run of tour dates through August and September.

Kicking off with a couple of south coast dates, and a local show at Yours and Owls on August 12th, The Bungalows will then head north towards Brisbane, and then back down south for a quick stop in Melbourne.

The band held an exclusive listening party for ‘Monkey Mountain Road’ at Yours and Owls last month, with those in attendance (and it was a packed house at the region’s new favourite venue) being lucky enough to pick up an advance copy of the album, and enjoy an intimate performance from the boys. Radar Illawarra has had a quick listen to a few tracks, and can say that ‘Monkey Mountain Road’ is a pretty excellent album. Check out some footage of the gig below, and familiarise yourself with the tour dates as well!

AUGUST  10; Brass Monkey, CRONULLA
AUGUST 19; Great Northern, BYRON BAY
SEPTEMBER 3; SHOALHAVEN HEADS Bowling Club (w/Mental As Anything)
SEPTEMBER 9; Baha Tacos, RYE

THURSDAY: Gay Paris, Mother and Son, Gentlemen and Vagabonds @ The Patch

8.30pm, $9, 18+

A great night of rock’n’roll coming up at The Patch this Thursday. Sydney’sGay Paris head to town to kick off their ‘4 Drinks Minimum’ tour, ably supported by hometown heroes Mother and Son, and Gentlemen and Vagabonds. Mother and Son’s album launch show in March sold out way ahead of time, and all reports (including Radar’s) commented on the outrageous amount of ass they kicked at that gig; they’ll be in a support capacity this time around, but don’t expect their dirty, bluesy rock’n’roll to be any less than awesome.

Make sure to come early and check out Berry’s Gentlemen and Vagabonds; they describe themselves as “a grimy blues band who make rough recordings in a shack just outside an old abattoir facility down the road from the infamous hanging tree,” this bio alone making them one to look out for.

Plus, it’s only nine bucks, so you really have no reason NOT to check out this show.

Also, check out Radar’s interview with Mother and Son, in the lead-up to their album launch show in March.

Still bummed at Night Eats Day, Midnight Kamikaze and Soundbreak Thursdays being cancelled? Having a hard time getting your weekly local music fix? Looking for some cost-effective activities on a Friday night?

Have we got some news for you!

Starting Friday April 29th, Dicey Rileys Hotel will host ‘Live and Local,’ a weekly, FREE band night! With a focus on local acts, ‘Live and Local’ has been set up to help fill the void left by the sudden closure of several popular music venues in the Wollongong area.

Each Friday night, three acts will take to the stage at Diceys. ‘Live and Local’ are currently focusing on local acts, but with future plans to gradually begin hosting larger touring acts, it could very well become a new hub for music in Wollongong.

The launch of ‘Live and Local’ will see Wollongong’s prodigal daughter, Pom Pom, play only her second show in the area since moving to Melbourne in 2010. Also helping kick off the new venue in style will be Vanguard Party and Tommy M & The Mastersounds.

In coming weeks, Diceys will also host performances from Arc Icarus, The Bungalows, Sydney Girls Choir, Yardvark, Young Braves and – after a period of absence – Lumiere!

Stay tuned to Radar for more news on this exciting new venture!
