Totally Unicorn to tour with Pour Habit

Totally Unicorn will again be bringing their infamous live show to the country at large later this year, after being announced to join acclaimed US punk outfit Pour Habit on their Australian tour in November.

TU supported Pour Habit on the Wollongong leg of their tour with Smoke Or Fire earlier this year (see our photo gallery here), and obviously impressed enough to be selected for the entire tour this time around. The tour, which also features Hightime, will hit all major capital cities as well as a number of select regional sites in November and December. Luckily enough for local fans, they’ve also booked a Wollongong date at The Patch (the only regional NSW date) on the itinerary.

Tickets for the tour are on sale now.

In other Totally Unicorn news, the bearded bruisers have apparently completely sold out of copies of their new EP, ‘7Inches.’ The two-track vinyl was limited to just a few hundred copies, and every copy has reportedly been sold – just a week after being made available for order. You can listen to a new track here. The four-piece will also be playing the Yours & Owls second birthday party later this month – click here and here for more information.

GALLERY: Smoke Or Fire, Pour Habit, The Conspiracy Plan, Totally Unicorn @ Waves Nightclub

Opening the nights proceedings like a bull in a china shop (an overweight, sweaty bull) were locals Totally Unicorn. For the next thirty minutes, chaos ensued; vocalist Drew made every piece of floor and furniture his own, before taking a flying leap off an amp stack and into the arms of Conspiracy Plan’s Glen Haworth. Slowly, punters made their way to floor to witness the antics, as well as some new tracks in Happy Birthday From The Over Pass and Kids In Suits, before closing with favourite, Cool Dads With Cool Sons.

Up next were pop-punkers The Conspiracy Plan, who had obviously raided their dress up box, as they strode on in all manner of crazy clothes. Opening with their latest single, Dangerous, it set the tone for a set of a fun times pop punk. Some in-between song banter about Totally Unicorn ended with Drew’s promise of “I’ll rape you later.” The Conspiracy Plan served up a big dose of well-known favourites in Cold Feet, Bombo Hill and the infectious Prick, before a mankini-clad finish.

As the first show of the tour, it was always going to be something special, so by the time Californian act Pour Habit took the stage, a sizeable crowd had formed on the floor. Opening with Institution, the maniac that is vocalist Chuck Green made good use of every square inch of stage and floor, running rampant amongst the crowd. The crowd loved it, going absolutely ballistic as they bumped off one another, with enthusiastic punters singing along to every word. The sharing of a man love moment with Drew from Totally Unicorn got hearts racing, before ending the ruckus that was their set with Bad Luck Drunk and an upside down Chuck Green.

In contrast to their tour mates, pop punk veterans Smoke Or Fire took things a little more seriously (but not to say that they weren’t there to have fun). Showcasing a number of a new tracks from their as-yet-unnamed upcoming album, some similarities can be drawn to that of Hot Water Music, considerably in Joe McMahon’s voice. Being their first show back in almost a year, their sound was a little rusty, but that soon cleared up, with Jeremy Cochran shredding on guitar during The Patty Hearst Syndrome and California’s Burning. The set-closing This Sinking Ship brought on a bit of a sing along, their DIY punk attitude is why these guys are still at the forefront of their game after more than a decade in the scene.

GIG GUIDE: October 3 – 9

The Patch begin their new Friday and Saturday music format this week; local acts in the front room for free, touring bands in the back room, and DJs playing after the bands finish. It’s a setup that Sydney clubs like Good God have found big success with, but only time will tell if this concept can translate to Wollongong. Aimed at bringing in different crowds to the venue, it does have the potential to transform The Patch into something of a live music and entertainment hub; let’s hope it works.

Also this week is Pour Habit & Smoke Or Fire playing Waves, with Totally Unicorn and The Conspiracy Plan in support; iconic Aussie acts X and Segression playing locally; Alotta Presha launching their EP; UOW band comp winners Rocking Horse & The Baby Dolls playing for beer-soaked punters at Unibar’s Oktoberfest party; and Jack Ladder and Ghoul bringing their own brand of experimentation to The Patch.

Pour Habit / Smoke Or Fire supports announced

Punk legends Pour Habit and Smoke Or Fire are set to destroy Waves Nightclub on October 5th, as part of their big national tour through that month. The local supports for the tour have just been announced, and once again, they’re crackers.

Both The Conspiracy Plan and Totally Unicorn will add to their already impressive list of support slots, when they warm up the stage for the Fat Wreck Chords double-bill. The Conspiracy Plan have already supported Tonight Alive, and will open for Man Overboard at the end of this month; while only yesterday we brought you news that Totally Unicorn would play alongside Frenzal Rhomb at their Sydney and Newcastle shows in September, adding to a big year in which they’ve supported Oh Sleeper, The Chariot, La Dispute and Comadre.

Tickets for the show are on sale right now! Click here for all the details.

TOUR NEWS: Ash Grunwald, Smoke or Fire, Pour Habit, Wolf & Cub, Fait Accompli,

A little bit o’ tour news for you on this crummy, cold night!

First off, Aussie blues and roots flagbearer Ash Grunwald will soon be passing through town, as part of his Road Dog Diaries tour in August. He plays Waves Nightclub on August 13, with tickets just $20 through Moshtix.

Next up is a big one for old school punk fans; Smoke Or Fire and Pour Habit will be heading Down Under for a co-headlining tour through October. This big, noisy double-header pulls into Waves Nightclub on October 5th; tickets go on sale July 14th, through Moshtix.

Adelaide psych-rockers Wolf & Cub have been keeping pretty quiet lately, but they’ve been at work finishing up a new single that should be out soon. To celebrate, they’re hitting the road for a quick tour through June. The band will be at The Patch on June 22, with Dark Bells and Upskirts in support. Tickets are twelve bucks, through BigTix.

Finally, Sydney ‘soul punk’ trio Fait Accompli will play The Patch on July 22nd. The band are touring to celebrate the launch of double A-side single ‘No Fool’ and ‘On A Blue Day.’ The Flat White Cats and Latham’s Grip are among the locals who will complete the lineup for what should be an excellent show.
