Home Brew’d update

After officially kicking off last week, the Brewery’s Home Brew’d band comp continues tonight with the second three-band heat.

With heat one contestants The Maze and Clockwork 925 winning through to the next round, three new bands will tonight compete for a place in the finals.

Abstract Classic, Damn Fine Gentlemen and Vulpes Vulpes will be on show tonight, with all bands looking for a good result to hopefully win a spot in the finals in a few weeks time.

Entry is free, but if that’s not enough incentive for you to head down, this might tip you in the right direction; the good folks at Haworth Guitars have donated a Legacy Diamond Series guitar (see the above image) for a raffle to be drawn at the final on November 17.To go into the draw, just buy a drink at the bar between 7pm and 8pm. Too easy!

This week’s Gig Of The Week was a no-brainer; no matter your views on their music, Parkway Drive are one of the biggest acts in the country, and have been for several years. They’ve sold out multiple dates at some of the country’s biggest venues including UNSW Roundhouse and the Hordern Pavilion, headlined tours worldwide, have picked up an ARIA award, and just today their latest album, ‘Deep Blue,’ was certified Gold by ARIA (over 35,000 copies sold). And all this from a band that was playing tiny shows at the Wollongong Youth Centre just five years ago. Parkway’s rise from obscurity to world-class leaders of metalcore has been nothing short of stunning, and is typified by the venue for their next trip to Wollongong; the WIN Entertainment Centre, where Parkway will play the same stage that has hosted the likes of Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga, Tom Jones and Pink.
Parkway are one of the biggest acts in the country, and to have them still return to the local area is a real coup. Also on the aptly named “Mix N Mash Tour” is American metalcore group Miss May I, US pop-punkers The Wonder Years, and Melbourne’s Confession. Opening the show will be local boys Elite Element, so make sure you get in early and support some local talent.
This is an all ages show with an early start (5pm), so you’ll be assured of being tucked up in bed early on a school night…
