Radar Illawarra Music Awards; final performers announced

Less than a week until the inaugural Radar Illawarra Music Awards, and we’re happy to reveal that the final two acts playing on the night are SYDNEY GIRLS CHOIR and JACK R REILLY.

Voting in the RIMAs closed last night, and counting is now underway. We will be announcing the three acts with the most votes in each category later this week, before revealing the final winners on Saturday night at the Patch. Until then, however, get psyched for the RIMAs with the news that two of our finest up and coming acts will be joining local stars TOMMY M & THE MASTERSOUNDS, PLACES PEOPLE and VULPES VULPES in giving performances at the event.

It’s been a huge 12 months for Sydney Girls Choir; since taking out the UOW band comp final, then the NSW final and placing 2nd in the national final, the reputation of the four-piece rock’n’roll band has only been building. They’ve recently supported the likes of Little Red, Children Collide and Bag Raiders, and recently dropped their excellent debut EP. The boys are also firmly in the running for a number of RIMAs, with their EP and film clip for ‘L.A’ scoring plenty of votes.

Kiama singer-songwriter Jack R Reilly has had a similarly prolific 2011, supporting the likes of Yellow Fever, Love Connection, Andy Bull and Kikuyu, while also fitting in a quick tour of Melbourne and a run through some of Sydney’s best venues including World Bar and the El Rocco Room. Reilly has also had a big year in terms of recording, dropping a swag of new tracks and is building towards a demo and EP release soon.

Doors open at 7pm on Saturday, with FREE entry all night (and cheap drinks, if you’re so inclined). Get out and support some of the best talent this region has to offer!
