TOUR NEWS: Bloc Party announce Wollongong show

We usually don’t care much for DJ announcements here on Radar; but in this case, we’ll make a rare exception.

In a surprise development, the recently reformed Bloc Party have announced a special DJ tour this October, with Wollongong’s OneFiveOne nightclub set to host an exclusive event on October 13th.

Details are somewhat scant at this stage. We know that it will be Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack manning the decks, and Sydney’s Metro Theatre, which is also to host a leg of the tour, offers this tantalising description of the event; “an exclusive intimate DJ Set… with some very special guests yet to be revealed.”

Bloc Party have long had a special relationship with Australia, scoring headline slots at Splendour In The Grass in 2005, 2007 and 2009, before taking a hiatus towards the end of 2009. During the interim, frontman Kele released his debut solo album – ‘The Boxer’ – while Lissack toured with Ash, and Gordon Moakes started a new project called Young Legionnaire.

Bloc Party have been slowly dropping hints of a reunion for almost a year now, and finally all-but-confirmed a new album was on the way just weeks ago.

Again, DJ sets usually aren’t our thing here at Radar; but with indie-rock royalty hitting Wollongong – albeit in a limited, and somewhat unconventional capacity – we thought it deserves a mention.

Stay tuned for more news on how this special DJ set develops…
