Ian Kenny’s OTHER band, Karnivool, was just in the area as part of a triumphant headlining tour with ShockOne and Over-Reactor (some of whom got in the studio at Main Street, to lay down a new track; more details soon!)
A somewhat scaled-back tour for the ARIA award-winning band, in terms of venue size, the 22-show trek will see Birds of Tokyo eschew the arenas and massive theatres of previous tours and return to smaller, more intimate venues.
“We’ve been lucky to play lots of really big venues and festivals over the last 12 months”, says Kenny. “Those shows have all been fun but we’re kinda missing the gigs we used to do where you can get up close to the audience…. We figured doing a tour of sweaty clubs would just be a fun way to bring this album to a close.”
The Wollongong University Unihall will host the band on September 17th, around halfway into the tour.
Prices for the concert have not yet been confirmed, but the band has announced that fanclub members will have first shot at tickets; an exclusive pre-sale begins Wednesday July 13, before general release tickets go on sale July 15. Tickets available from usual outlets including OzTix, BigTix and in person at the Unishop.
